CraftPersia.com is an independent reference on Persian and Iranian handicrafts. This page explains how entries are written, what every label means, and how to report a mistake.
Principles
Living traditions
Crafts are described as practices carried by people and places today, not as decorative souvenirs or relics.
No invented facts
Dates, attributions and provenance are only given when a published source supports them. Where the record is thin, entries say so.
Disputed claims shown as disputed
Where scholars disagree — about a motif's meaning or a craft's origin — competing readings are set side by side, without picking a winner.
No nationalistic claims
Shared traditions across Iran, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Anatolia and South Asia are described as shared.
No authenticity promises
Nothing on this site authenticates, values or grades an object. Identification pages are learning aids only.
What the labels mean
| Under review | Written from general reference knowledge; not yet checked line by line against the listed sources. |

| Representative photograph | Photos show the kind of object discussed, never the specific item described. Sources and licences are listed on the credits page. |

| Indicative figures | Chart values are approximate ranges or editorial judgement, not measured statistics. |
Review process
- Draft written with sources listed at the foot of the entry.
- Claims checked against those sources; unsupported sentences removed or hedged.
- Specialist and native-speaker review — not yet carried out for any entry.
- Only then is the "Under review" label lifted.
Sources and corrections
Every source cited across the encyclopedia is gathered in the bibliography. Image sources are on the credits page; rights holders can ask for any image to be removed.
