Gereh-chini: Persian geometric wooden lattice
Editorial team · بهروزرسانی 2026-10-03
How it holds together
Each piece is cut with tongues and grooves so the lattice locks itself. Panels may be filled with coloured glass (orosi windows) or carved inserts.
Where to see it
Orosi sash windows in Kashan, Shiraz and Yazd houses; shrine doors; the Shah Mosque in Isfahan.
Buying a panel
Ask whether the pattern is assembled from individual pieces or laser-cut from a single sheet — only the first is gereh-chini.
